Dermal fillers can restore lost volume to your face, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and fill in creases, but with so many options available, how do you know which dermal filler to choose? Keep reading to learn more about your options.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced naturally by your body. It is an important component of skin and it helps your skin stay healthy and look young.
There are many dermal fillers available that use hyaluronic acid to improve your appearance. Some of these include:
- Juvederm—Juvederm is an FDA approved treatment that is used to correct wrinkles and folds around the nose and lips. It is commonly used to treat ‘smile lines’ and ‘parentheses’ in the lower section of your face. Juvederm can last for up to 12 months and it can also be used to enhance the lips.
- Voluma—Voluma is a long lasting type of Juvaderm that was created specifically to treat the cheeks and midface. It provides instant results that can last for up to 2 years.
- Belotero Balance—Belotero balance is smoother and finer than other fillers, which makes it ideal for treating more sensitive areas like the tear troughs under the eyes. It is also often used to enhance lips and correct sleep lines and smile lines. Results usually last 6-9 months.
- Restylane and Perlane—These fillers are part of the same family. They are both used to correct wrinkles, reduce the appearance of lines, and add volume to the face. Restylane is thinner so it can sometimes be used for more sensitive areas. It lasts for about 6 months. Perlane is thicker, which means it lasts a little longer. In general, Perlane lasts for 9-12 months
Other Fillers
While hyaluronic acid fillers are common, they are not the only type of filler on the market. Other dermal fillers use another natural substance in your body—collagen—to improve your skin and take years off of your appearance.
Radiesse stimulates the production of your body’s own collagen to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore volume to the face. Results can last 12-18 months. Radiesse is also sometimes used to smooth the skin on hands and make them look younger.
Sculptra works gradually to improve your appearance subtly. It is a great option for those who want to improve their appearance without drawing attention to the process. Sculptra uses poly-L-lactic acid to replace lost collagen and restore the foundation of your skin. Results improve gradually through a series of 2-3 treatments and these results can last for up to 25 months.
